Fortified Bad Reichenhall
Reichenhall with its precious Salinas was over the centuries always a coveted object and bone of contention for the mighty. This led to the construction of defense works and fortified places since early times.
We start our tour in the upper town and will then continue upstairs to Gruttenstein Castle. From there we will get a good overview of Bad Reichenhall and its strategic situation. Then we will follow the historic town wall up to St. John Baptist Church, the former Salzburg Gate.

History of Bad Reichenhall spa and health resort
Take a walk from the hotel Axelmannstein, the birthplace of the spa, to the royal casino and the park and learn about the transformation of Reichenhall, a place of salt-production, into the famous health resort and holyday destination Bad Reichenhall (Reichenhall spa). The fundamental social changes, which went along with this development and influence even the present days, will be described.
Furthermore, the medical achievements of the 19th and 20th century, on which the spa ́s reputation was founded, will be presented.
